Officials with the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman have informed us that they are now working on wrapping up their Systemic Review of the SR&ED Tax Incentives Program. They have asked that anyone interested in speaking with them or providing more information about their experiences with the program should contact the following by February 19th:
Manager, Systemic Examinations
Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman
They hope to complete the interviews by March 10th.
Observation: If you wish to have your experiences and views heard, both positive and negative, you should take advantage of this opportunity, now.
We have heard considerable concerns expressed that contacting the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman could have negative impacts on the CRA's relations with a company. We have brought this concern to the attention of the Ombudsman’s officials. They have indicated that they believe they can provide a safe environment for your input, and that they seek frank and detailed commentary. They wish to understand accurately what is happening and why.
In respect to any concerns you may have about providing input, it will be important that you bring them to their attention so that may understand them and explicitly address them.
We suggest that those interested in discussions should be very upfront when contacting the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman, should explain their concerns, and obtain the needed assurance.
Christopher Bozik, Director of Operations, Office of the Taxpayers' Ombudsman, has encouraged us to let people know that they are welcome to contact members of the Ombudsman's Office to obtain clarification on issues of confidentiality. Lorna Riopelle is the primary contact. However, Mr. Bozik has indicated that people can contact him directly at:
